A Great Start to Our Summer Journey

A Great Start to Our Summer Journey

This first week of Democracy Summer foreshadows that this will be one of the most productive summers for Facia and me. We have been working hard, and already have much of our schedule for the next two months planned. Throughout the week, we worked on getting petition signatures and finding activists to attend Mega Moral Monday on June 3rd. On Thursday, we attended and spoke at a community event planned by a local group, Charlotte HELP, an organization involving clergy leaders in the Charlotte area. During this event, we spoke about voter suppression efforts by legislators in Raleigh, informed them about Moral Mondays and how they can get involved, and passed out informational literature, like this legislative scorecard [link]. We were well received by the friendly and fired-up crowd.

On Friday, we had a one-on-one meeting with a local organizer in the area and through that we recruited several more activists to attend Mega Moral Monday and our Lobby Day later in the summer. Our work is still not done for this week.  We have more events planned for this weekend, where we hope to distribute even more informational materials and recruit more people to attend Mega Moral Monday and other events we’re planning in the weeks to come.

This was a great first week, and both Facia and I are eager and excited to further the good work of Democracy North Carolina!
