Forward Together

A busy week thus far, here at Democracy Greenville/Durham! We’ve had a couple of eleven hour days this week, between phonebanking and a trek out east to Greenville and Rocky Mount. Monday’s phonebanking session went well; Killian’s friend Kimberley dropped by to give us a hand and we were able to make over 100 calls this time, and patch about 10 folks over to Sen. Phil Berger’s office.

On Tuesday we went out to Greenville to meet with Councilwoman Marion Blackburn, seeking support for our resolution against Citizens United. We’ve got a few other councilpersons on board, and it seems like there’s a good chance that Greenville City Council will pass a resolution against in August. The resolution’s text is similar to that of Move to Amend’s resolution. Later that day, we went to a PFLAG event, followed shortly by an Equality NC event in the same place. Saw some familiar faces from our speaking engagement in Rocky Mount last week, and it was interesting attending meetings in places that, at first blush, I would not have expected to be as politically engaged. Very inspiring. We also dropped by WOOW, a community radio station in Greenville, and got a slot on their program for next week. I’ve been away from my slot at WXYC, UNC’s station, for the summer so it’ll be nice to be on the airwaves and talking about important issues again.

We’re spending the rest of the week getting ready to present at this weekend’s Rocky Mount Pathways “2” Power training. Killian and I have light duties — involving showing a movie among other things — but we’re also doing some behind-the-scenes research in preparation. The training is still open for signups, by the way — visit http://tinyurl.com/RockyMountP2P.

Forward together, not one step back!
