Congratulations to all those inside and outside the General Assembly whose combined work blocked the Republican attempt to override Gov. Perdue’s veto of the photo ID bill (H-351). But rather than accept defeat in a fair vote, the Republican Majority Paul Stam demonstrated his real commitment to the integrity of elections: He cast his vote with the Democrats to put himself on the winning side, then after the vote count was announced, he immediately used a parliamentary trick to put the veto override measure back on the House calendar where it can be brought up anytime for the rest of the 2011-2012 biennium session! The Fayetteville Observer nailed Stam’s “shameless fraud” in an editorial worth your read.
One does as one is.
The public is insisting that that photo ID’s be required for voting, politics should not get in the way of the correct policy. It is appropriate for voters to prove they are who they say they are, just as they do when cashing a check. The Governor is on the wrong side of this issue. It appears to me the legislature is listening to the outcry from the public for better control on the voting process.
Report of voter fraud in NC. “WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) — Authorities have charged four Wake County residents with voter fraud in connection with the last presidential election. ”
This is why we need photo ids for voters! You people better get your heads out of the sand!
They (registered Democrats) admitted to voting twice in 2008.
