In another of what has become a pattern of wacko actions, the so-called Voter Integrity Project tried to stage a “fraud-in” at a Raleigh polling place during today’s runoff election. VIP leader Jay Delancy wanted to shoot photos of a group of masked voters to highlight the cheating he believes is committed by poorly identified voters. He got approval for the charade from a precinct official who turns out to be the VIP communications director, but the Wake County and State Boards of Elections blocked his plan, citing two potential violations of state law: no photos inside the polling place (a law to protect ballot secrecy) and no wearing masks inside a public building (a law originally adopted to stop KKK intimidation). No report yet on whether the precinct official will be removed from her post. Meanwhile, today is indeed Election Day for the primary runoff in a few dozen counties – enter your county’s name on this site to see what’s on the ballot.
