WRAL reports that the volume of Republican Party money spent on ads to elect Paul Newby to the Supreme Court puts him in a compromised position when the legal challenge to the Republican’s redistricting plan comes to his court. Former Duke University Law School Dean Paul Carrington says the plaintiffs have a legitimate reason to push for Newby’s recusal in the case. “It ought to be raised and the U.S. Supreme Court ought to be asked to deal with it,” Carrington said.
