Share the wealth:

Welcome to the tough world of phone banking — definitely not for the faint of heart! But a rare opportunity to learn a lot about the way people react to what you say and how you say it — and a great time to look beyond our own agenda and into the hearts and minds of North Carolinians. So many well-meaning groups go out there with a message and agenda to spread, and they are passionate about spreading the word, but I’ve learned that people are not going to listen to you unless they first feel listened to themselves.

Which brings me to my question: one I’d like each of you to think about and answer and share with the other interns as a way to up our game a little bit with this tough phone work.

Have some of you discovered that a specific technique when calling people works better than another — i.e., what have you said or done that seems to make the person on the other end of the line relax and feel comfortable enough to talk to you?

Second question: are you seeing a trend in what people say back to you? Is there an issue right now, maybe even one we’ve missed, that people seem to be brining up a lot when you talk to them? Or is there a particular issue you bring up that they really seem to respond to?

Thanks for your feedback… please use the “Comment” button to share your thoughts,  rather than starting a new post. Now talk amongst yourselves!
