Week 1 in Greensboro

This week has been interesting to say the least! Despite various technical difficulties (the internet continuously disconnecting & our ‘phone banking’ phones receiving no reception) we had a very productive week. Augustine and I finished our calls lists and setup a one-on-one with a prominent figure in Greensboro (details next week).

Monday, our first day, we spoke at the Greensboro Kiwanis Club. The food was….well it wasn’t the best (I love to eat, so my blog will always discuss food) but, to be our first presentation we knocked it out of the park. This demographic was conservative, and we may have lost some of our audience with our ‘liberal’ presentation and the some of the others simply fell asleep! But overall we gained confidence from this outing and everyone there was very nice. Both Augustine and I, critiqued ourselves and each other and are ready for our next presentation.

The most exciting thing that we attended this week was the Young Professionals monthly mixer with the Winston Salem Urban League. Back at home, I was part of the Columbus Urban League and I was thrilled to re-connect with the organization. They meet monthly at Noma restaurant (which has great food if your ever in the area). At this event, we served as spokespersons for the organization and networked with various organizations in the triad area. Although this event gave us the opportunity to relax, we still were able to spread the word about Democracy NC.

Overall, I have enjoyed this week and look forward to what the summer will bring. Hopefully, we get the internet and cell phone situation squared away so we will be working at 100% and the sky will be the limit. Watch out other teams, Greensboro is taking over this year!!! lol Until next week

I’m all about food, too. Maybe we should open the democracy cafe.
