Youth Engagement in Politics

Youth Engagement in Politics

After interning for almost 6 weeks with Democracy NC, I have become more dedicated to getting North Carolina Central University, the school I attend, more involved with state government issues.

To this end, The Winston-Salem team traveled to Durham on July 3, 2013 to talk to students at NCCU about issues currently before the state legislature. I was glad to see over 50 people attend to hear us speak about different bills that will affect them, their families, and their communities.

I am committed to increasing student engagement in North Carolina politics when the upcoming semester starts. Our state’s youth must take an interest in state politics in order to build a stronger democracy. We as young people should work in unity and create the pathway for keeping a strong democracy and a government that is OF, FOR, and BY the people.
