Is there a national effort to make voting harder for young people? The head of Generation18 provides an overview of the issue and the anti-voter efforts across the country, as well as a plea for deeper civics education in our schools. Closer to home, Charlotte WBTV has a cover story on how the issue is playing out in North Carolina, with the catchy title, “The War on Voting?”
Let me ask Democracy NC, does it make sense for a college student from New Jersey to vote on NC candidates just because he lives here for 4 years at UNCC? That student should vote from their home town not where they go to college. This is a perfectly sensible idea. We need to place safeguards on our sacred duty to vote and a photo ID is not a problem to any voter. If they need a photo ID to cash a check, surely we can have the same control to vote. I don’t understand your opposition to these perfectly sensible proposals. Where’s the beef?
are you serious? of course they should vote in NC, especially if they have lived here for YEARS?! Are you suggesting people not be allowed to vote until they have lived somewhere for over four years? what century are you from?! Do you know how much people move around these days? Residency requirements are set at 30 DAYS for voting in a new location. why should it be any different for college students? Why would you want to treat them any differently than other residents?
If the student is paying out of state tuition, that means he is from out of state and is not a citizen of this state. Can I say that any clearer?
