…It can be a dirty game

Home/Civic Engagement, Democracy Summer, Democracy Summer 2010, Durham, Tales From The Frontline, Voter-Owned Elections/…It can be a dirty game

…It can be a dirty game

It is easy to get discouraged when things don’t the way we planned them.  Especially if the plan one has is for the greater good of the people.  Lobby day had everybody pumped. It was really great to see everybody and catch up a bit.  None of us had any idea that things would turn out the way they did.

VOE being stripped from the bill really brought down the moral for those of us in Durham.  The mood of the office just wasn’t the same.  It is usually very perky and upbeat in here.  As of now, everyone is just trying to figure out a next move.

We all know that the world of politics is far from peaches and cream.  Although we were not expecting for this to happen, we can’t let it stop our efforts.  VOE was one of the most important parts of the bill, so it would seem that more time and consideration would have been put into a decision like e this.   Politics can be a dirty game, but letting downfalls discourage us won’t get us anywhere.  Plan B!! On to the House!!!!

Peace, Love, &  CLEAN Politics

i really appreciate reading about the constructive efforts of so many young people, especially the winston-salem team, which contains two very fine young men. I, too, do some community organizing work here in Winston-Salem and understand the continued energy and motivation it requires. Don’t let this minor setback at Lobby Day take the wind out of your sails! Change almost always takes a long time, but without voices agitating for it, change may never happen. You all are doing an important community service, whether or not everyone understands it. I applaud you. Keep it up.

Thank you so much for your comment Tracy. Although things have not gone as smoothly as I would have hoped, I have gained some tough skin. The setback has made me want to work harder!
